SCoNE Sprints, USAC Midgets, double features, fireworks to fill July 2 card

(From track press release)

BRADFORD — Mother Nature claimed most of Bear Ridge Speedway’s Wells River Savings Bank program on Saturday night, but not before Tom Placey, Alex Curley, and Lacey Hanson took feature victories.

Placey earned his first win of the season in the KDD NAPA Auto Parts Hornet division. The two-time champion from Bradford took reeled in leader Steve Sheldon during the closing circuits of the 20-lap race, then took the lead as Sheldon’s engine sputtered. Jessie Smith of Topsham came through for second place with Mike Stender of South Strafford third. Bill McKee and Eric Lang completed the unofficial top five.

Lacey Hanson of Orwell earned her second win of the season in the Granite State Mini Sprint 500cc class after a mid-race battle with Fair Haven driver Billy Lussier. Early leader Lussier held on for second place, with Chad Southworth of Thetford third. Southworth rebounded from a crash early in the event. Chris Lussier and Kyle Belliveau were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Seventeen year-old Alex Curley of Norfolk, Mass., earned his first Bear Ridge Speedway win in the Granite State Mini Sprint 600cc division. Curley was in the lead as the rains came on lap 13 of the 20-lap event. Luke Greenwood of Hudson, N.H., finished second with Rich Crooker of Nashua, N.H., third. Jake Williams and Troy Boissoneau completed the top five.

Feature events were washed out for the Bond Auto DIRTcar Sportsman Modified, Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupe, A Notch Above Automotive Limited Late Model, and Weglarz Property Service Fast Four divisions.

Bear Ridge Speedway’s 99ROCK Weekly Racing Series is back in action on Saturday, July 2 at 6:00pm, as Miller Auto Group presents the WYKR Sprint Cars of New England and the USAC Dirt Midget Association. All five weekly divisions will on the card plus the make-up features from Wells River Savings Bank Night and an Independence Day fireworks celebration from Noise-R-Us Fireworks. Admission is $10.00 for adults (age 17-61), $8.00 for teens (12-16) and seniors (62+), and $2.00 for kids (11 and under).

Bear Ridge Speedway is a quarter-mile, semi-banked clay oval located on Kidder Road in Bradford, Vermont.
