PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — George Foley of Vermontville, N.Y., passed Dan Brown on lap nine in the second lane of the progressively banked Airborne Speedway half-mile en route to becoming the first two-time DIRTcar Modified feature winner of 2012.

Foley’s tenth-place handicap starting position was the result of missing last week’s action due to an engine failure during a practice session. After getting by Brown, the now 10-time career feature winner was forced to hold off the likes of Patrick Dupree and Patrice McGrail on three restarts occurring on laps 15, 16, and 17, respectively.

“I didn’t want to push things in the middle stages of the race after taking the lead because I like to save something for the end of the race and not abuse the tires,” Foley said. “I am proud of the way we responded after the motor issue last week and this proves it is not just the Ford motor that gets me here to victory lane. I am looking forward to more victories this season.”

Dupree, who was the 2008 and 2010 track champion in the headline division, was unable to maneuver around Foley and settled for the runner-up spot. Patrice McGrail of Candiac, Que., continued his string of good finishes with the final podium position.

Adam Bartemy of Sheldon, Vt., and Plattsburgh competitor Todd Ormsby had season-best finishes earning top-five honors. Positions six through ten went to Aaron Bartemy, Vince Quennville, Todd Stone, Pierre Berthiaume, and Leon Gonyo.

Plattsburgh, N.Y., hotshoe and 28-year racing veteran Bucko Branham defeated his nephew Robin Wood by just .027 seconds after a hotly contested eight-lap side-by-side battle to grab his second checkered flag of 2012 in the 25-lap Limited Late Model feature.

Branham was able to get a healthy restart on the outside of the front row following a lap 17 caution period to take control from the point. After Jamy Begor’s automobile began to fade, the Mooers, N.Y., native had to settle for third. Shawn Duquette of Morrisonville, N.Y., and Clintonville, N.Y., driver Keith Pelkey rounded out the top-five.

Sebastien Fournier, of St-Leonard, Que., driving a former Modified from the Martin Roy stable, successfully kept Nick Heywood on his back bumper for the final five-laps of the 20-lap Sportsman Modified feature and collected his first career win Saturday night.

Heywood, of Morrisonville, N.Y., finished second, and Jamie LaFountain of Keeseville, N.Y., rebounded from a hard crash last week to take the third spot. Travis Bruno and Eric Lauziere were fourth and fifth, respectively.

John Bradley was stout in the 15-lap Modified feature and walked away with his second career feature win in the four-cylinder entry level division. Jayson Criss and Josh LeClaire completed the top-three.

Weekly racing at Airborne Speedway continues Saturday with action presented by Dig Safe NY and Saratoga Auto Body.
