WEST HAVEN — Devil’s Bowl Speedway has announced via its website that the championship season for the track’s Pro Late Model division is final. Pittsford driver Hunter Bates, 16, will be crowned the division’s champion.

The 2011 season was Bates’ first in a full-fender American-Canadian Tour-type car. Bates never posted a victory but finished second three times and third twice, and was the only driver to start all nine Pro Late Model feature races at Devil’s Bowl.

Bates also ranks third in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified points at the track, where he has one win.

Three-time winner Chris Wilk of Mendon finished second in Pro Late Model standings, 20 points behind Bates (456-436). Wilk did not compete on July 3. Kayla Bryant of Mt. Holly (eight starts) finished third overall, with Rutland’s Kevin Elliott (seven starts) fourth. Mike Bruno of Castleton finished fifth overall; Bruno won five of his six starts. Sixty-eight year-old Joey Laquerre, Sr., of East Montpelier also won a feature race in his only start, on July 17.

Six rainouts — including each of the last three Sundays — cut the Pro Late Model season short. The division was not originally scheduled to be part of this weekend’s Labor Day weekend event, which includes the annual CVRA.com 100 for Modifieds, a pair of Bomber Warrior races, and a 100-lap Enduro. Last Sunday’s program was scheduled to include a double-points Pro Late Model feature to decide the champion; the last event held at Devil’s Bowl was on August 7, which was also affected by rain.

The NASCAR Modified, Renegade, and Bomber Warrior divisions will complete their championship seasons this Sunday at 6:00pm with a rain date set for Monday.
