PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — It appeared that with four laps to go, Cameron Grady had all but won Saturday night’s Ernie’s Discount Tools Modified feature at Airborne Speedway.

Until George Foley showed up.

The Saranac Lake, N.Y., driver, pilot of the No. 34 Shamrock Bar and Grill DIRTcar Modified, made a bonsai move underneath Grady down the backstretch on lap 27 to solidify himself in the top spot.

The 2007 track champion then closed out the remaining three laps of the event and took home his seventh career victory.

“I’m really happy,” Foley said. “It’s been a couple of years. We’ve been waiting a long time for this.”

Foley noticed Grady using the high line down the backstretch and decided to take advantage by using the inside lane to pass him and grab the top spot with under five laps remaining.

“It was a little nerve-wracking when I saw him going out there,” Foley explained. “I figured I’d wait for an opening and I’d drive it in there. It definitely paid off.”

Foley received a free Lazy-Boy recliner courtesy of Furniture World of Vermont after capturing the win.

Pat McGrail of Candiac, Que., finished second with Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake, N.Y, third. Grady, of Wilmington, N.Y., slipped to fourth, and Dan Brown of Sutton, Que., rounded out the top five.

Finishers six through ten went to Kris Vernold, Andy Heywood, Craig Reyell, Martin Roy, and Don Scarborough.

Robin Wood picked up his third consecutive victory in the 25-lap J&S Steel Sportsman feature.

Wood started 12th in the 21-car field used a lap 21 caution to setup a duel between himself and then-leader Bucko Branham. Wood used the double-file restart to pick off Branham on the top side in turns one and two.

Travis Bruno of Plattsburgh had his best career finish by taking home the runner-up honors. Branham faded to finish third, while Nick Heywood and Bill Thwaits rounded out the top five.

Peru, N.Y.’s Robbie Favreau earned his first checkered flag of 2011 by winning the Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade 25-lap main event. Defending track champion Kevin Boutin of Swanton, Vt., finished second, while Don Franklin of Milton, Vt., West Chazy, N.Y.’s Joe Warren, and Morrisonville, N.Y.’s Josh Terry completed the top five.

Erick Sayles of Saranac Lake, N.Y., picked up his first career win in the NAPA Mini-Modified feature, and Josh Durivage of West Chazy, N.Y., returned to victory lane after claiming the win in the Busch Bomber feature.
