BARRE — Rich Lowrey earned his first Late Model win of the season at Barre’s Thunder Road on Thursday night. The Charlotte driver came from sixth at the start to take the lead from hometown rookie Cody Blake at the halfway mark of the 50-lap Casella Waste Management event, two laps after Blake and leader Brooks Clark tangled in turn four.

Lowrey survived a final restart on lap 29, then held off runner-up Nick Sweet of Barre for the win. Northfield’s Matt White, Phil Scott of Montpelier, and Blake rounded out the top five finishers, followed by point leader Dave Pembroke, Reno Gervais, Cris Michaud, John Donahue, and Joey Becker.

Pete Ainsworth of Middlesex scored an emotional Tiger Sportsman victory for his first win of the year. Ainsworth dedicated the win to his mother, Rosie, who passed away in January. Ainsworth started on the pole of the 35-lapper and held off Fairlee driver Troy Gray, who finished a career-best second. Brendan Moodie of North Wolcott, Peacham’s Tony Rossi, and David Finck of Barre completed the top five finishers.

Williamstown’s Mike MacAskill edged Gorham, N.H., racer Jean LeBlanc for his second Street Stock win of the season. Berlin’s Scott Weston, Bradford rookie Tom Placey, and Jamie Davis of Wolcott completed the top five.

Barre’s Kevin Dodge earned his third Junkyard Warrior victory of the year over Cabot’s Ken Christman and Kevin Wheatley of Williamstown.

Thunder Road returns to action on Thursday, July 29, for the annual WDEV Radio/Calkins Portables “Port-A-Potty Grand Prix.” All four divisions will also be in action, beginning at 6:30pm.
