Defending champ Shepard visits Sportsman Coupe victory lane

BRADFORD – Adam Pierson grabbed his fifth Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modified win of the season on Saturday night at Bear Ridge Speedway.

The win for the East Corinth driver was his first in the month of June after he swept the month of May.

Pierson worked his way from a 16th place starting spot to the lead and held on to the top spot through a late race restart.

Hometown driver Jordan Fornwalt finished in the runner-up spot while Vershire’s Tim Hodge completed the podium. Sharon pilot D.J. Robinson and Kevin Chaffee of Bradford finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Josh Sunn, Robert Tucker, Terry Williams, and Todd Buckwold finished ninth while Lenny Pillsbury posted his first top-ten finish of his Bear Ridge career.

Defending Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupe champion Bob Shepard visited victory lane for the first time in their 30-lap feature.

The West Topsham driver came from a second row starting spot to claim the win.

Hometown favorite Thomas Placey finished second with rookie Stan Otterman posting a career best in third. Mitchell Frost of East Corinth and Bradford’s Brian Chaffee finished fourth and fifth.

Matt Ellsworth, Hodge, Michael Danforth, Jason Horniak, and Jason Colbeth completed the top-ten finishers.

Tim Martin of White River Junction grabbed his sixth win of the season in the 20-lap Mike Rivers Automotive Limited Late Model feature.

Rookie pilot Wayland Childs finished second with Derrick Stearns, Don Reynolds, and T.J. Morse third through fifth, respectively.

Danny Doyle of Rochester won the 20-lap Weglarz Property Service Four Cylinder feature over Mike Ryan, Bobby Bell, Buddy Welch, and Jesse Durkee.

John Scarborough of Bomoseen won the 600cc Granite State Mini Sprint feature over Kyle Belliveau and John Mills while Bob Griffin won the 500cc Granite State Mini Sprint feature over Belliveau and Kyle Pittman.

Bear Ridge hosts a big night of racing on Saturday, July 2 with the O’Reilly Auto Parts double point counting, three-segment Sabil & Sons Sportsman Modified Madness event along with the Sprint Cars of New England and the USAC Dirt Midget Association. Fireworks will also be presented in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday. Post time is set for 6:00pm.
