WENTWORTH, N.H. – A brief but steady rain shower that soaked the clay surface, combined with a town-issued curfew, forced Legion Speedway officials to stop their opening night racing activities after completing just one feature event.

J.P. Vaillancourt of Plymouth, N.H. secured the win in the 20-lap Super Street feature event after he took the lead from early race leader Matt Pike on lap 6. Vaillancourt then held on through a midrace restart and cruised to the win in the opening race.

Tim Martin of White River Junction, Vt. bounced back after early contact with the turn two wall to finish second while Bob Crawford Jr. of Groton, N.H. finished third.

Only seven laps were completed in the 16-car Mini Stock feature event before the rains came. Kurt Whiting of Ossipee, N.H. was leading the event.

Kevin Chaffee earned a dominating win in the Modified heat race. Jake Williams and Luke Greenwood split the heat race wins for the Sprint Cars of New England. Chris Donnelly earned a dominating win in the six-lap, $100 Dash for Cash.

Officials announced that the Modifieds will run double features on Friday, May 14 while the remaining 13 laps of the Mini Stock feature will be completed on that day, too. The Sprint Cars of New England will complete their event when they return to Legion Speedway on Friday, May 27.
