LOUDON, N.H. — Drop this one in the “No Big Surprise” file: Joey Polewarczyk is excited to race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway twice in 2011.

The American-Canadian Tour announced on Thursday afternoon that it will be included in the track’s IZOD IndyCar weekend on August 12-14, in addition to its annual September appearance with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Hudson, N.H., driver Polewarczyk, 21, won the second annual ACT Invitational in September with an impressive drive from 27th starting position. Polewarczyk is chomping at the bit to get his next crack at the New Hampshire mile.

“I’m pretty pumped for it. Obviously, we had a pretty good car last time we were there,” Polewarczyk said. “But beyond just me, it’s better for ACT as a division overall. We get to compete on a much bigger stage twice next year and bring more interest and hopefully more cars.”

While the specifics of the event’s qualifying format were not released, the ACT “All Star” event scheduled for August 13 at NHMS is open to more than just invited drivers; any approved driver with an ACT-legal car and ranking inside the top-15 in point standings at one of nearly a dozen tracks in the northeast — as well as drivers from the ACT Late Model Tour and ACT Castrol Edge Series — may attempt to qualify. ACT president Tom Curley said he expects as many as 100 teams to attempt the August event at NHMS.

Polewarczyk thinks that opening up the qualifying format at the fast one-mile superspeedway has both positive and potentially negative qualities, but trusts that ACT will keep a close watch one interested competitors.

“There’s always a danger racing there, we all know that, but Tom will do a good job looking over the cars before the race,” Polewarczyk said. “If there’s anyone who shouldn’t be there — if the cars aren’t safe or the drivers aren’t safe on the track — the tech guys will say something. If there’s one bad thing about opening it up, that’s it, but I’m sure Tom will make it work.”

Polewarczyk says that the drivers that have experience at New Hampshire Motor Speedway have become much more comfortable and should produce an entertaining race; half of the top-ten finishers in the 2010 ACT Invitational started outside the top-20.

“It’s such a fun track to race at if you know how to pass. The first year we were all fast, but it was tough to figure out how to pass until late in the race,” said Polewarczyk. “Now we’ve figured it out, and I feel like I figured it out. I can’t wait to go back twice next year.”
