ACT Announces 2011 Touring Schedules
Spring Green to Devil’s Bowl; U.S., Canadian series to combine three timesWATERBURY -- The American-Canadian Tour released the 2011 schedules for both of its Late Model touring series on Monday. The U.S.-based ACT Late Model Tour and the Quebec-based ACT Castrol Edge Series will each have nine stand-alone events and will combine three times for a total of 12 championship races on each schedule.
The ACT Late Model Tour opens its 20th season on April 17 at Lee USA Speedway with the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150. Highlights include two trips each to Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in Barre and Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine. Single events will be held at White Mountain Motorsports Park and Twin State Speedway in New Hampshire, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Maine, and Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven.
The Devil’s Bowl half-mile will host its first-ever ACT Late Model Tour event on May 22 with the 37th Annual Spring Green. The race returns to Vermont for the first time since 1987 following the closing of Milton’s Catamount Stadium, and will also return to a tradition of the lap count corresponding with the current year; the first Spring Green in 1974 was 74 laps, and the lap count increased by one circuit each year until becoming a 100-lap event in 2000, when the race was held at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y. The 2011 Spring Green will be 111 laps.
The ACT Castrol Edge Series schedule opens on May 21 with the first of three trips to Autodrome St-Eustache near Montreal. The series also makes two visits each to Autodrome Montmagny, Autodrome Chaudiere, and Circuit Riverside Speedway, all near Quebec City.
The three remaining championship events for each series will be the combination races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H., on August 13, Circuit Riverside Speedway in Ste-Croix, Que., on August 27, and the season finale Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway on October 8. The events at New Hampshire and Airborne will be the first-ever championship events held in the United States for the five year-old ACT Castrol Edge Series.
ACT will again endorse or sanction four non-championship events: The TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains on July 24, the Showdown at Chaudiere on September 10, the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September 24, and the 49th Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl at Thunder Road on October 2.
The sanctioning body will not return to its northernmost and southernmost tracks in 2011; the ACT Castrol Edge Series will not return to Autodrome St-Felicien in Quebec’s Lac St-Jean region, and the ACT Late Model Tour drops both events at Waterford Speedbowl on the Connecticut shoreline.
