LOUDON, N.H. -- Glen Luce didn’t have a great experience at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last September. In fact, Luce barely had any experience. Luce ran at the rear of the field and retired with overheating problems just after the halfway point, finishing 35th of 36 drivers.

This year it’s been a reversal of fortunes for the Turner, Me., driver at New Hampshire; Luce tested very well in August -- in fact he won his 12-lap mock race -- and Saturday afternoon he drew the number-one pill in the pre-race starting position draw.

“We’re gonna give it our best shot,” Luce said with a grin. “I feel a lot more comfortable now. I’d probably rather start in tenth because all I can do now is go backwards, but we’ll go in positive. The car was good in practice.”

Luce summed up in two words what needed to win: Clean air.

“It definitely helps,” he said. “It’s all about momentum.”

Jeff Smith of Old Lyme, Conn., will start outside Luce. Jamie Fisher is the top Vermonter in third place, with Maine’s Dennis Spencer, Jr., fourth. Dan McHattie of Ontario and Travis Adams of Maine make up the third row, followed by Randy Potter, Miles Chipman, Jeff Zuidema, and Jean-Francois Dery.

Defending ACT Invitational winner Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Mass., was penalized ten starting positions for an infraction in final pre-race inspection. Parts of MacDonald’s car’s body -- specifically the front valence and rear quarter panels -- measure under the minimum required height.

MacDonald moves from 23rd on the grid to 33rd.
