First Round of ACT Invitational Selections Announced

WATERBURY -- The American-Canadian Tour announced the first 20 invitees to the second annual ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Monday. The race is set for Saturday, Sept. 18, as part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Sylvania 300 weekend.
Nine of the twenty drivers on the initial list -- including five Vermonters -- are drivers that have won one or more of the qualifying events on the ACT Late Model Tour, ACT Castrol Edge Series, or at an ACT affiliate track, while the rest are either affiliate track champions or point leaders, or have earned “at-large” bids after testing well at NHMS in August and/or having competitive seasons with ACT.
Two rookies, Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Me., and Alex Labbe of St-Albert, Que., were also invited to race.
“The ACT Invitational is one of the most anticipated events of the year for short track teams from throughout New England and the provinces of Quebec and Ontario,” said ACT president Tom Curley in a press release. “Now the hard part of determining who will make up the 43-team roster begins.”
ACT expects to release the balance of the invited drivers on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and Monday, Sept. 12.
