LOUDON, N.H. --
Officials from New Hampshire Motor Speedway are preparing today to announce plans for the track’s “major event” schedule for the 2011 season.

It is widely believed that the 1.058-mile facility will retain two dates on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule to go along with an IZOD IndyCar Series/Firestone Indy Lights Series event scheduled for July 30-31, 2011.

Both dates for the NASCAR weekends, however, are certain to change, as Infineon Raceway has announced it will host the Sprint Cup Series on June 26 and Chicagoland Speedway will run on September 18. Those weekends have traditionally been held for New Hampshire’s annual Lenox Industrial Tools 301 and Sylvania 300 weekends.

It has been projected that the New Hampshire NASCAR Sprint Cup Series dates will be moved to July 17 and Sept. 25, respectively.

It all remains to be seen, as well as dates for NASCAR’s national and regional touring series including the Nationwide Series, Camping World Truck Series, K&N Pro Series East, and Whelen Modified Tour, along with the independent American-Canadian Tour.

Some mid-summer rumblings have placed ACT in the mix as a companion race to the IndyCar weekend in 2011, and NHMS vice president and general manager Jerry Gappens has expressed interest in the possibility of adding lights to the track to incorporate night racing.

Vermont Motorsports Magazine is on site at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and will report the outcome of the press conference, which is scheduled to begin at 2:30pm this afternoon. Follow along with live updates on our Twitter page.
