BREAKING NEWS: ACT Invitational Test Dates Set, First Invitees Announced

- Justin St. Louis on 22 Jul 2010

LOUDON, N.H. -- Warm up the stage, it’s time to practice.

The American-Canadian Tour and New Hampshire Motor Speedway have announced a two-day, invite-only test session for Late Model teams in the northeastern United States and eastern Canada in preparation for September’s second annual ACT Invitational event.

The test will be held Tuesday, August 17, and Wednesday, August 18, to help determine the field for the ACT Invitational, which is part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Sylvania 300 weekend. ACT also released the first 40 drivers to be invited to the test.

Fifty-three teams tested at last year’s two-day session, which was viewed as an audition for the final 36-car cut. As the starting field for this year’s event has increased to 43 cars, so has the test session roster -- according to an ACT press release, over 70 drivers will be invited to the test. The final field of 43 starters will announced in the future.

Last year’s test session afforded teams nearly eight hours of track time each day and included short mock races to simulate green-flag racing conditions.

“We expect a totally different practice session this season having now experienced one Invitational,” ACT President Tom Curley said in the press release. “There was a lot of anxiety going into NHMS last season, but this year teams know what to prepare for and what to expect. Certainly for the many new teams we are inviting for the practice sessions, this will be a race experience many have dreamed about, but the goal is to get teams comfortable for the September event.”

Seven of the first 40 invitees for the August test are guaranteed starters at the ACT Invitational as winners of qualifying races. The remaining list includes current point leaders at ACT affiliate tracks in New England and Canada. The final 30 drivers invited to the test will be announced following the ACT Late Model Tour event at Twin State Speedway on Friday, July 30.

Among the first 40 test invitees are drivers from seven U.S. states and two Canadian provinces, including ten drivers from Vermont.
