PR: Sweet Riding Momentum Wave To Oxford 250

(From team press release)

OXFORD, Me. --
When Nick Sweet and the STJAUTO.COM race team roll in to Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday morning they will be looking to continue the momentum they have built at their home track, Thunder Road all season long. The team sits 2nd in the season standings at the Barre, Vt., speedway, within reach of point leader David Pembroke.

This will be Sweet’s 3rd attempt at Maine’s Crown Jewel, the $25,000 to win Oxford 250 is the richest one-day short track Late Model race in the country, which draws national racing stars, like Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick, who took the checkers in 2008. Sweet finished 6th that year, and 16th in 2009 after contact sent him spinning late in the race.

Sweet, 25 from Barre, has won two big events thus far this year, and is looking forward to his third shot at the 250. “We have had a great year so far with the Merchants Bank 150 and Governor’s Cup wins this year, I feel that we are well positioned for a strong showing at Oxford.” The STJAUTO.com team has definitely found their stride at the 1/3 mile flat track, in the last 3 events the team has competed in at Oxford, they have finished out of the top 10 just once.

The 2008 ACT Late Model Tour Rookie of the Year Champion seems to shine during the bigger events throughout the region. Not only has he scored two big wins already this year, he was runner up to Eddie McDonald at the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last September, and won the pole position for the famed Milk Bowl at Thunder Road just weeks later.

John Loschiavo, president of the Saint J Auto Group is excited for Sweet’s chances at the Oxford 250 this year. “Nick has grown into such a fierce, yet respectable competitor over the past 3 seasons,” states Loschiavo. “The competition in Maine will be the toughest he’s ever faced, and I feel he is definitely up to the challenge.” Sweet will have his work cut out for him, as the 2009 winner, Eddie MacDonald will be back to defend his title, as will current ACT Late Model tour point leader Brian Hoar. Also in attendance will be NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Brad Keselowski and third generation driver, Jeffrey Earnhardt, grand-son to the late Dale Earnhardt.

The Oxford 250 qualifying starts Sunday afternoon at 2pm, with the 250 lap main event scheduled for 6:30. For more information on Sweet Racing, log onto www.sweetracing88.com.
