DAVE ROGERS, crew chief, No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

How was the race car in final practice?
“We’re real pleased with our Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry. This is my hometown track so we’re looking forward to good results. So far we’ve had a really fun weekend. We got a bad draw in qualifying and we didn’t qualify as well as we wanted. The car is real raceable and Kyle (Busch) can drive it and maneuver around other cars. We’re looking forward to a good day on Sunday.”

What were you working on during practice?
“We made a long of long runs. We had three sets of stickers left over so we made three 20-plus lap runs. When you put that many laps on tires, they’re going to slide and that’s why we did that. We wanted to make the longer runs and see where our balance was going to go and not kid ourselves by making a lot of short runs with heat cycles and over-tightening the car. I think we have a good idea of where our car is at. We’re not the fastest car here. There are some really fast cars out in the field, but we are happy with the way it’s driving and just have to find a little more speed and we’ll be okay.”

What does it mean to come to your home track as a Sprint Cup crew chief?
“It’s great to come back home no matter how you come home. It’s great to have family and friends here. It’s an honor to represent the Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry. Interstate Batteries is a founding sponsor of Joe Gibbs Racing. I’ve been with Joe Gibbs for 12 years and have a lot of pride in what the company has done over the years. It’s an honor to go to any track with Interstate Batteries on the hood and a double honor coming back home.”
