LOUDON, N.H. --
Ryan Newman says he races the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to have fun. If that's the case, Newman must be having a lot of fun.

The South Bend, Ind., NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran won the Coors Light Pole Award for Saturday's Whelen Modified Tour New England 100 on Thursday afternoon, keeping Bobby Santos at bay in the process. Through the first four events this season, Santos has three victories, three poles, and a commanding point lead over seven-time series champion Mike Stefanik.

Driving for long-time Modified supporter and current Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing crew chief Kevin "Bono" Manion, Newman turned a fast lap of 29.663 seconds at 128.402 mph to win the pole. Santos, of Franklin, Mass., was second at 29.778 seconds and 127.907 mph. Former champion Todd Szegedy will start third followed by young Erick Rudolph and Robbie Summers. Doug Coby, 2009 NHMS winner Ronnie Silk, Ted Christopher, Rob Fuller, and Jimmy Blewett rounded out the top ten.

Post time for the New England 100 is at 1:10pm on Saturday.
