Moffitt Wins K&N East New England 125 Pole
N.H. racer Shaw will start on front row
LOUDON, N.H. -- Seventeen year-old Brett Moffitt apparently likes a flair for the dramatic, winning the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Coors Light 21 Means 21 Pole Award late in the qualifying order at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Thursday afternoon.
Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Moffitt, of Grimes, Iowa, was the 29th of 32 drivers attempting to qualify for Friday's New England 125 at the 1.058-mile speedway and turned a fast lap of 30.356 seconds at 125.471 mph to win the second pole position of his young career.
Center Conway, N.H., rookie D.J. Shaw carried the home banner and will start on the outside of the front row in Friday's race. Shaw's lap was 30.430 seconds at 125.166 mph.
Shaw was followed by fellow rookies Max Gresham, Ryan Gifford and Ty Dillon in the top five. Defending K&N Pro Series East champion and current point leader Ryan Truex will start sixth. The top ten was completed in order by Kevin Swindell, Cole Whitt, Alan Tardiff, and Miguel Paludo.
Andrew Ranger qualified 16th for Fairfax-based NDS Motorsports. American-Canadian Tour drivers Joey Polewarczyk and Eddie MacDonald will start 20th and 21st, respectively. Eighteen of the 32 starters are K&N Pro Series East Rookie of the Year candidates. The New England 125 is scheduled for Friday at 5:00pm.
