Hinckley Doubles Up With MRS At Thompson

- Justin St. Louis on 21 Jun 2010

THOMPSON, Conn. -- Les Hinckley is back in a big way on the BobValentiAutoMall.com Modified Racing Series this season, picking up his second victory of 2010 at Thompson Int’l (Conn.) Speedway on Thursday night in the Town Fair Tire 75.

Hinckley, of Windsor Locks, Conn., took advantage of an incident between leaders Mike Stefanik and Rowan Pennink with 20 laps remaining to take the lead, then held off Ted Christopher to back up his win at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., last month.

Stefanik, of Coventry, R.I., traded the lead several times with Plainville, Conn., driver Christopher before Pennink entered the picture on lap 43. A dozen laps later, Pennink and Stefanik made contact, with Stefanik’s car spinning out of the lead. Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., was penalized and sent to the rear of the field.

Hinckley, who had battled for third place with Christopher for several laps, then inherited the lead and drove to the win -- his first at the 5/8-mile Thompson track. Defending MRS champion Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, Mass., finished third behind Christopher, with Bellingham, Mass., driver Steve Masse fourth, Eric Goodale of Riverhead, N.Y., fifth, and Charlie Pasteryak of Lisbon, Conn., sixth.

Ascutney’s Dwight Jarvis was seventh. Stefanik rebounded for ninth, while Pennink was the final driver on the lead lap in 17th.
