Hoar Rides Unconventional Pit Strategy To Runner-Up Finish At Oxford
OXFORD, Me. -- Brian Hoar entered Sunday’s TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway as a favorite to win and lived up to the billing with a runner-up finish, but the way he arrived to the podium was a bit unconventional.
The Williston racer started from the pole position and led the first dozen circuits before settling into a top-five position. When the field pitted under caution on lap 140, Hoar’s Rick Paya-led team chose to change only one tire. The results were a bit disastrous, but that was all part of a master plan. Read Full Story
Morgan Proving His Worth With Oxford 250 Podium Run
OXFORD, Me. -- Some questioned American-Canadian Tour director Tom Curley’s decision to invite Oxford Plains Speedway driver Corey Morgan to audition for the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last August.
At the time, Morgan had only one top-ten finish to his credit in ACT competition and had not won a weekly main event at his home track in five years.
But the Lewiston, Me., driver is proving that he does belong. Morgan earned a fourth-place finish in last month’s ACT event at Oxford, and Sunday finished third in the TD Bank Oxford 250, the biggest Late Model race in the country. Read Full Story
Leighton’s Oxford 250 Dominance Ends Early
OXFORD, Me. -- The TD Bank Oxford 250 was Brad Leighton’s to lose. Unfortunately, he lost it.
Leighton dominated the event, leading twice for a total of 188 laps, and kept up a blistering pace throughout the event. By the halfway mark, the Center Harbor, N.H., veteran had lapped all but the top five drivers.
Leighton’s chief competition came from defending Oxford 250 winner Eddie MacDonald, and as MacDonald hounded him for the lead on lap 202, Leighton’s right-front tire went flat, leaving him off the top of turn one. Read Full Story
