MONTPELIER --
Three-time Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl champion and 2002 American-Canadian Tour champion Phil Scott has won perhaps the most important race of his career: Scott was voted the Lieutenant Governor of Vermont on Tuesday.

Scott, 52, a five-term Republican state senator from Middlesex, defeated Democratic candidate Steve Howard for the seat. By definition, the Lieutenant Governor presides over the Senate and votes to break ties in that chamber, and acts as Governor when the Governor is unavailable.

Scott was first elected as a Washington County state senator in 2000, and has served on the state’s Natural Resources, Institutions, and Transportation committees. He owns Dubois Construction in Middlesex, and initiated the annual Wheels For Warmth program.

Scott was a feature winner at Thunder Road in Barre in 2010 and finished a close third in Late Model point standings; he is the all-time winner in the division at the track. He won the Don MacTavish Award for his contributions to stock car racing in 2005.
