BRADFORD --
Richie Simmons used a lap eight restart to his advantage as he jumped out to the lead and then dominated the remainder of the 40-lap Bond Auto Parts DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature on Saturday night at Bear Ridge Speedway.

The win for the Bradford driver was his second of the season; he won the season opener back in May.

Simmons was unchallenged over the final 31 laps of the event and had as large a quarter-track lead over second place at times.

“I talked a guy this week about selling this car,” Simmons said in victory lane. “I’m not sure if he’s going to buy it, but it showed tonight what kind of car it is.”

Second place point driver Kevin Chaffee of Fairlee worked his way into the second spot on lap 33 after he started in the 14th spot. Mike Dunn of North Haverhill, N.H. raced in the second spot for the majority of the feature event, but was forced to settle for third as he held off Canaan, N.H. driver D.J. Robinson. Newport, N.H. driver Josh Currier completed the top-five finishers.

Point leader Adam Pierson, Josh Sunn, Tim Tucker, Thomas Kimball, and Jordan Fornwalt completed the top-ten finishers, unofficially.

In the 25-lap USAC Dirt Midget Association feature, Pierson charged from a 12th place starting spot and then used a lap 17 restart to zoom past leader Mike Chaffee and secure his sixth win of the year.

Pierson would restart on the outside of row two in the third spot in the Delaware-style restart, but wasted no time to claim the lead – Pierson would hold a three-car advantage over Mike Chaffee by the exit of turn two.

“The car was going really good,” Pierson said in victory lane. “The car was hooked up on the outside. That was the place to be.”

Pierson’s teammate, Josh Sunn, would chase Pierson through the field to finish second while Dean Christensen of Granby, Conn. finished third. Kevin Chaffee and Adam Whitney completed the top-five finishers with sixth through tenth going to Ray Miller, Derek Graham, Tim Gallant, Dylan Duhaime, and Rober Tucker, unofficially.

Matt Ellsworth came out on top in the 30-lap Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupe thriller.

Corinth’s Ellsworth took the lead following a lap 15 restart and then was forced to hold off hometown favorite Thomas Placey over the final five laps of the race. Ellsworth and Placey went side-by-side over the final six laps of the event. Placey appeared to have the quick advantage on the outside, but Ellsworth held tough on the inside and grew his lead inch-by-inch.

Bradford’s Jason Horniak finished third with point leader Bob Shepard fourth. Brian Chaffee completed the top-five finishers while defending champion Jason Colbeth, multi-time champion Josh Harrington, Michael Danforth, Todd Hayward, and Earl Maxham finished sixth through tenth, respectively.

Matt Lashua of Canaan, N.H. used a pole position starting spot to his advantage to earn the win in the 20-lap Crazy Ed’s Powersport Limited Late Model feature. Lashua led wire-to-wire and was never challenged in the event.

Point leader James Fadden of Plainfield, N.H. finished second with Tim Martin of White River Junction a distant third. Ryan Ovitt and Travis Smith completed the top-five finishers.

Point leader Justin Severance of Rutland works his way past Mike Ryan at the midway point of the 20-lap Weglarz Property Service/F.M.S. Auto Parts Four Cylinder feature to earn the win.

Jesse Durkee finished second with defending champion Mike Ryan third. Sean Perron and Charlie Lakin completed the top-five finishers.

Bear Ridge Speedway returns to racing on Saturday, September 12 with the Spencer Rocke Memorial Classic. The Granite State Mini Sprints will be visiting the quarter-mile clay oval as part of the event.
