CANAAN, N.H. --
Canaan Fair Speedway General Manager Dick Therrien announced that the American-Canadian Tour will return to the speedway for the first time since 2005 on Saturday, June 15, 2013.

“I am very pleased about the ACT Tour coming to Canaan for an event this season,” Therrien stated in a track press release. “This will give our own Late Models a chance to shine against many of the Northeast’s finest drivers. With our own 18 to 20 cars, and the solid field of ACT cars that will be in attendance, it should make for an awesome event.”

The American-Canadian Tour has raced at the one-third mile asphalt facility six times and has seen six different winners: Phil Scott (1997), Chris Fisher (1998), Brian Hoar (2000), Dave Pembroke (2001), Kenny Dufour (2002), and A.J. Begin (2005).

The wins by Scott, Pembroke, and Begin were the first of their American-Canadian Tour careers.

Canaan featured the ACT-style Late Models as their premier division under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series guidelines in 2012. Newly crowned American-Canadian Tour Wayne Helliwell, Jr., won the track champion en route to the NASCAR New Hampshire State championship.

Another New Hampshire track, Riverside Speedway in Groveton, announced a tour event to be held at their facility on Sunday, June 2, 2013 during their awards banquet this past weekend. Star Speedway in Epping, N.H., previously announced an American-Canadian Tour date as well.

Combination events with the ACT Castrol Series are expected again, with two races set for Sanair Super Speedway in Ste-Pie, Que., and Circuit Riverside Speedway in Ste-Croix, Que.

Canaan has hosted a $5,000-to-win Late Model event, known as the Subway Fresh Fit 150, the two previous years. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., won the 2011 edition after Brad Leighton cut a tire while leading, while Helliwell beat Brian Hoar in the closing stages to win the 2012 edition.

The newly announced events join the list of traditional American-Canadian Tour dates, including the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H., on Sunday, April 14, 2013, the Spring Green at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vt., the Labor Day Classic at Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., and the Fall Foliage at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Vermont Motorsports Magazine will have more news as the 2013 racing schedules are released.
