Devil's Bowl Doubles Up Tonight

- Justin St. Louis on 29 Aug 2010

Devil's Bowl Speedway has double features in all divisions tonightWEST HAVEN -- Devil's Bowl Speedway returns to action tonight at 6:00pm with an even dozen feature events including double features in all divisions. Rain has washed out racing each of the last two weeks at the half-mile West Haven oval, and with the championship decided next week on September 5, the stakes are higher than they've ever been.

Kenny Tremont, Jr., of West Sand Lake, N.Y., is trying to become the first driver to win a Modified championship on the new asphalt and leads Castleton's Mike Bruno by 29 points entering tonight's Heritage Family Credit Union event. Tremont has suffered through mutliple engine failures at Devil's Bowl, Albany-Saratoga Speedway, and Lebanon Valley Speedway of late, just as Bruno's campaign has begun to pick up steam.

Tremont has three victories on the year, while Bruno has been winless since June 13. Two-time winner Don Scarborough of Brandon sits third, 47 points behind Tremont, with Jimmy Ryan and Vince Quenneville, Jr. -- each a feature winner as well -- completing the top five in standings.

Middlebury teen Hunter Bates leads the Sportsman Modified division despite seven victories by Don Miller of Wells. Miller has captured each of the last four features but trails Bates by 30 points.

Jon Miller of Malta, N.Y., enjoys a 64-point lead in the Renegade division on the strength of six victories. Frank Monroe and Bill Duprey vie for the runner-up position.

Essex Junction's Nate Woodworth leads the Bomber Warriors and Erika Lilly of Castleton is the Duke Stock point leader.

In the closest point battle, Chris Wilk of Mendon leads the way in the Pro Stock/Super Street Challenge Series through three features, but has only a four-point cushion over Malta, N.Y., racer Mike Scorzelli, with teammate Jeremy Houghtaling of Schenectady, N.Y., just eight points back, and Kayla Bryant, Scott MacMichael, and Bobby Schmidt all within 29 points of the lead.
