Bear Ridge Speedway’s 44th season of stock car racing revs into high gear Saturday as Wells River Chevrolet presents a full card of racing for the 99ROCK Weekly Racing Series at 6:00pm. The 1/4-mile DIRTcar-sanctioned clay oval opened its gates last weekend with more than 70 race cars in the pit area and treated fans to fast-paced, exciting action in five divisions.

Adam Pierson of Fairlee posted a come-from-behind victory in the Bond Auto DIRTcar Sportsman Modified division to open defense of his 2010 track championship, the sixth Bear Ridge title of his young career. Pierson has an early championship point lead over returning racer Louie Cadwell of Vershire and Canaan (N.H.) Dirt Speedway champion Dan Eastman of Thetford Center.

Former Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupe champion Josh Harrington of Topsham turned in a dominant performance on opening night to claim his first victory of the year, and defending A Notch Above Automotive Limited Late Model champion Will Hull of East Montpelier also grabbed a win on opening night after battling with Newbury’s Jeremy Hodge and rookie Matt Covey of Corinth. Kevin Harran of St. Johnsbury leads the Weglarz Property Maintenance Fast Four division, and sophomore driver Eric Lang of Groton leads two-time champion Tom Placey of Bradford in the KDD NAPA Auto Parts Ridge Runner Hornet class.

Bear Ridge Speedway is back in action on Saturday, May 14 at 6:00pm, when Wells River Chevrolet presents a full card of 99ROCK Weekly Racing Series race divisions, plus the Hornet Queens. Admission is $10.00 for adults (age 17-61), $8.00 for teens (12-16) and seniors (62+), and $2.00 for kids (11 and under).

Bear Ridge Speedway is an alcohol-free family entertainment facility located on Kidder Road in Bradford. Bear Ridge Speedway is Vermont’s only dirt track and is the only track in New England sanctioned by the Charlotte, N.C.-based DIRTcar organization. For more information, call (802) 222-4052 or visit
