BRADFORD --
It was a night of firsts at Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday. As in, first win in years for Jack Cook and first win ever for Mike McGinley.

Cook, a 58 year-old veteran from Moultonboro, N.H., earned his first Sportsman Modified victory in several years by leading every circuit of the 30-lap feature on 99ROCK WFRD Night.

Even Cook couldn’t remember his last victory at the track. “I won a couple on the ice last winter, but my last win here was… how many cars ago?” he laughed in victory lane.

Cook had a brief miscue on lap 17 when he bobbled in turn four and allowed three-time champion Gary Siemons to draw close, but was able to hold on through a total of eight restarts for the win. Siemons, of Orford, N.H., finished second.

Eighteen year-old Middlebury rookie Justin Comes overcame a spin on lap 8, then won a fierce battle for third place with Jim Morgan and point leader Adam Pierson. Pierson took fourth place as Morgan’s car shut down on the final lap. Rookie Josh Sunn finished fifth.

Bear Ridge Sportsman Coupe winner Mike McGinleyMcGinley, of East Barre, scored his first Sportsman Coupe victory by leading all 20 laps of his feature event. Driving one of only two Ford-powered cars in the division, McGinley shrugged off a season filled with hard luck and blown engines for the win. Brothers Melvin and Gene Pierson finished second and third, respectively, with rookie Robert Tucker and Chris Carbee completing the top five.

Josh Harrington’s bid for a fifth-straight win ended in a frontstretch pileup on lap three.

Will Hull of East Montpelier earned his seventh Limited Late Model win of the year despite a late charge from Tyler Stygles. Canaan Dirt Speedway champion Jason Giguere finished third, followed by Ray Johnson and T.C. Forward.

White River Junction racer Sunn, pulling double duty, took the 80th feature win of his career in the Fast Four division by holding off Tim Hodge. Travis Hull, Andy Johnson, and rookie Josh Connors rounded out the top five. The win was Sunn’s 13th of the season at Bear Ridge.

Tom Placey (right) put on a show in the Hornet feature at Bear RidgeHometown driver Tom Placey put on a dazzling display in the Hornet feature after blowing a tire on the opening lap. Placey drove from last place on the season-high 21-car field to post his 12th victory of the year. Mike Pittman was second, ahead of Mark Nickles, J.T. Descoteaux, and Bobby Bell.

Melissa King of Corinth earned her seventh Hornet Queen win in nine starts and locked up that division’s championship. Donna Racine and Eileen Hemway completed the podium.

In the Granite State Mini Sprints, Derek Eldridge of Tyngsboro, Mass., won the 600cc feature over Matt Robie and Terry Reil. Lacey Hanson of Orwell won the 500cc race over Josh Boissoneau and Billy Lussier.
