CANAAN, N.H. -- The Sprint Cars of New England series is set for a two-track doubleheader weekend at Canaan Dirt Speedway in New Hampshire and Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford.

Rookie drivers have been the ones to beat this season, as freshmen Chris Donnelly of Orford, N.H., and Danny Douville of Concord, N.H., have each taken a checkered flag already. Donnelly edged fellow rookie Kevin Chaffee of Orange by three feet at the finish line to win at Big Daddy’s Speedbowl last Sunday and leads the championship standings after five events.

Three-time SCoNE champion Mark Cole of Lebanon, N.H., rides second overall, 22 points behind Donnelly (264-242) on the strength of Big Daddy’s win in May. Bruce Kimball, feature winner Shawn Lawler, and Robby Bodwell rank third through fifth.

Orwell’s Lacey Hanson sits in sixth place, six points ahead of defending champion Tunk Berry and Clay Dow, tied at 192 points. Berry posted a win at Canaan on June 4. Douville and another rookie, Shawn Berry, round out the top ten drivers.

The Sprint Cars of New England will be at Canaan Dirt Speedway in Canaan, N.H., on Friday at 7:00pm, and at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford on Saturday at 6:00pm.
