Siemons Goes Mad At Bear Ridge

- Justin St. Louis on 14 Jun 2010

BRADFORD -- Gary Siemons picked the right time to get hot at Bear Ridge Speedway. The three-time defending track champion from Orford, N.H., took his first Sportsman Modified win of the season in Saturday’s three-segment, extra-money “Madness” event.

Rookie Ryan Dutton of Bradford started on the pole in the first 25-lap segment and led every lap to win the opening round, with Siemons second, Jack Cook third, Adam Pierson fourth, and Bryan King fifth. With the finish order of the first segment inverted to start the second leg, Groton, N.H., driver Travis Shinn pushed past rookie Justin Comes of Middlebury to take the win. King and Siemons made a charge from the rear of the pack to finish second and third, respectively, with Pierson fourth and Dan Eastman fifth.

Pierson, of Fairlee, put forth a valiant effort to take the overall victory by winning the third segment, but Siemons again finished third behind Jason Gray. Eastman and Mike Dunn completed the top-five in the final round.

By virtue of his three-segment low total score of eight points (2+3+3), Siemons netted the overall victory. Pierson was second overall with nine points (4+4+1). King, of Corinth, was third overall, with Gray fourth and Eastman, a rookie, fifth.

Two-division star King would not be denied in the Sportsman Coupe division, however, earning his first victory of the season over Corinth driver Steve Ellsworth. Jason Horniak continued his strong sophomore season with a third-place finish over Melvin Pierson and Mike McGinley.

Tyler Stygles of Bradford won his first Limited Late Model feature, with East Montpelier’s Will Hull second and Jeremy Hodge of Newbury third. White River Junction’s Josh Sunn remains undefeated through five events in the Fast Four division, beating Kevin Harran and Andy Johnson.

Tom Placey of Bradford won the Hornet feature over Mike Ryan and Karl Sheldon, and Misty Bell of St. Johnsbury won the Hornet Queen feature over Melissa King and Donna Racine.

The Gravco Janitorial/Jasper Engines Twin State Modified Series will be in action at Bear Ridge next Saturday at 6:00pm, along with the Granite State Mini Sprint Series and a full card of regular divisions.
