BARRE – A midweek phone call led to Nick Pilotte being in victory lane on Sunday afternoon at Thunder Road.

The former Thunder Road Street Stock champion posted the low overall score of 12 points to claim the win in the two-segment Street Stock Mini-Milk Bowl.

Pilotte piloted the car normally driven by Kasey Beattie in Speedway 51’s youth Daredevil division.

“It was kind of a last minute deal with this,” Pilotte said. “I got a call on Tuesday asking if I wanted to go to the Milk Bowl and race. You can’t pass up the Milk Bowl. I said ‘if you can fit my butt in Kasey’s small seat, we can make it work.’

“(The team) busted their butts to get the seat in for me.”

The Jefferson, N.H. driver started on the pole position in Saturday’s segment one and finished second. A full-field invert saw Pilotte start out back in the second segment on Sunday and ran to a 10th place finish that saw multiple caution flags.

The weekend for Pilotte was not without adversity. During practice sessions on both Saturday and Sunday, Pilotte was caught up in incidents. The team was able to get the car back together both times – once with assistance from the track’s wrecker to fix sustained damage – and secured the win.

Matthew Smith of Essex Junction used a win in the second segment to come out on top of a four-way tie for the runner-up spot with 13 points. Race to Read driver Alan Maynard of Fairfax finished fourth in the second segment to finish third overall. Cooper Bouchard and segment one winner Kevin Streeter completed the top-five overall finishers.

Jamie Davis, Brandon Gray, Garry Bashaw, Michael Gay, and Will Hennequin finished sixth through tenth, unofficially.

Segment one winner Dave Finck of Barre finished third overall after he raced his way to a fifth place finish in segment two. Trevor Lyman of Hinesburg and segment two winner Stephen Donahue completed the top-five finishers.

Sixth through tenth in the overall standings was scored as Jason Woodard, Jaden Perry, Brian Delphia, Mark Barnier, and Jason Pelkey.
