BARRE – It is all up for grabs in the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman championship battle on Sunday afternoon at Thunder Road.

Defending champion Brendan Moodie flipped the Tiger Sportsman battle with his win on the final Thursday night event of the season one week ago. The Wolcott driver sits one point ahead of youngster Stephen Donahue.

Mike Martin of Craftsbury Common sits in third, just 12 points back of Moodie and still in realistic contention. Cameron Ouellette sits 22 points back in fourth with Jason Woodard 27 points back in fifth.

The three segment event will determine the champion on Sunday.

Moodie is going for his second championship while Donahue seeks his first. Martin and Ouellette will vie for their first, too, while Woodard goes after his second.

For Woodard, a win is likely his only realistic option as he would need a difference of 17 spots without a win over Moodie and Tiger car counts that have not reached that threshold many times this season. With a win, Woodard would need Moodie to finish 15th or worse, Donahue 14th or worse, Martin ninth or worse, and Ouellette fourth or worse to claim his second championship.

For a Ouellette championship, a win would have to see Moodie finish tenth or worse, Donahue ninth or worse, and Martin fourth or worse. Without a win, Ouellette would need six spots between himself and Martin, and 11 spots between himself and both Donahue and Moodie.

For a Martin championship, his fourth win of the season would have to see Moodie finish no better than fourth and Donahue no better than fifth. No win for Martin would have to see five spots between himself and both Moodie and Donahue.

For Moodie and Donahue, it’s a pick’em. The driver who finishes ahead of the other – and depending on where the other three challengers finish ahead outlined above – will be the champion.

But which Perry will be the happiest?

Younger brother Jamon leads older brother Jaden by 17 points entering the final 25-lap event of the season.

Jaden Perry closed the gap one week ago with his win on Thursday night.

Garry Bashaw sits 41 points back in third. For Jamon Perry, a Bashaw win would mean he would have to finish 17th or better to win the championship. For Jaden Perry, he would have to finish 10th or better and Jamon 18th or worse.

Should Jaden Perry win his heat race and feature, Jamon Perry would have to finish fifth or better in the feature. Other championship scenarios will change depending on the heat race finishes of the three drivers with five points for the win, four for second, three for third, two for fourth, and one for the remainder of the finishers.

Thunder Road’s championship finale is on Sunday, September 4 at 1:00pm.
