BARRE — Tony Andrews had a bit of a scare on Sunday night at Barre’s Thunder Road, but held on — through the infield — for his first Late Model win of the season.
Andrews, of Northfield, led all 50 laps of the Harvest Equipment Father’s Day event, but spun through the frontstretch grass with just six laps remaining as Cody Blake’s lapped car leaked power steering fluid on the track surface directly in front of Andrews. Andrews’ car slipped in the fluid and spun to the infield, while top-five runners Dylan Smith and Brooks Clark also spun, hitting the wall and coming to a rest.
Andrews, however, was able to keep his car moving forward as the caution flag flew and was given the lead back. He then held off Waitsfield’s Grant Folsom on a lap-44 restart for the win. State Senator Phil Scott of Middlesex, last week’s winner, slipped by Folsom late for the runner-up spot, while Dave Whitcomb of Essex Junction and Jeffersonville’s Joey Becker rounded out the top five.
John Donahue, Dave Pembroke, Reno Gervais, Nick Sweet, and Cris Michaud completed the top ten in order.
Derrick O’Donnell of Bradford completed a drive from 15th starting position to post his first career Tiger Sportsman victory in that division’s 35-lap event. Eric Badore of Milton was the runner-up, followed by Shawn Fleury, Tony Rossi, and Troy Gray.
Randolph’s Eric Johnson snapped a five-year drought with a win in the Street Stock main event. Mike MacAskill of Williamstown finished second with Scott Weston third. Barre driver Kevin Dodge earned his first Junkyard Warrior win of the season over the previously-undefeated Ken Christman and third-place Brock Parrott.
Speed51.com Editor Mike Twist of Lyman, Me., won the annual “Media Madness” race, his third-straight victory in the event.
