PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. --
Vermont Motorsports Magazine has learned through multiple sources that Mike Perrotte has resigned as Airborne Park Speedway promoter.

Perrotte had been at the helm at Airborne since 2005 when car dealership owner George Huttig leased the half-mile oval from current owners Tom Curley and Ken Squier. Perrotte continued as the promoter of Airborne when Steve Fuller purchased the speedway shortly thereafter and had continued his post when Jamie Atkins took control of the track prior to last season.

Under Perrotte’s hand, the track transformed from on the brink of closure to one of the national spotlights in short track racing. He instituted the legendary 358 Dirt-style Modifieds as the track’s premier division and oversaw a complete reconfiguration of the racing surface in 2009 which produced exciting results.

Perrotte also successfully brought some prominent regional touring series to the track with the American-Canadian Tour, International Supermodified Association, Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour, and the Valenti Modified Racing Series. Perrotte, along with ACT President Curley, co-promoted the ACT International 500 last season, one of the largest races in Airborne’s history.

The 2014 season is to see Airborne become a NASCAR-affiliated track and participate in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. The track’s Sportsman Modified division, in its third year of existence, is slated to have the NASCAR D1 designation, while the 358 Modifieds will retain the DIRTcar sanction and run a part-time schedule.

Airborne brass recently decided that the long running Limited Late Model division would be combined with the ACT-type Late Model class that is slated to return in 2014.

An attempt to reach Airborne Park Speedway General Manager Sherm Hamel was not successful.

Vermont Motorsports Magazine will have more as this story develops.
