NAPLES, Maine --
Pro All Stars Series President Tom Mayberry announced on Thursday a rival Late Model Series in the Northeast in 2014.

The new series will make a small debut with three races at Oxford Plains Speedway. Two, $2,000-to-win, 100-lap events will be held on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, September 27 while a $4,000-to-win, 125-lap will be held the night before the Oxford 250 on Saturday, July 19.

“The timing is right for a new Late Model Series to be developed and implemented on a test basis in 2014,” Mayberry stated in a press release. “There are tons of Late Models just sitting idle, and several other tracks and series cars will be able to participate as well.

“We have developed a universal set of rules that will just about encompass any racecar with minimal changes.”

The rules developed are tailored to that of the Waterbury, Vt.-based American-Canadian Tour rules platform. Two notable differences are an $150 shock rule and nine inch Hoosier tires.

“We are all excited about launching the PASS Northeast Late Model Series and have a very good feeling that this series will be very successful.”

Mayberry also announced on Thursday that Oxford will pay a weekly purse of $1,500-to-win for their top tiered Pro Late Model division.

“After a solid transition year in 2013, we feel that to get to the next level, we have to return the weekly purse back to where it was when Pro Stocks were the top division at Oxford,” Mayberry said. “This brand of race car is starting to see some significant growth and is drawing a ton of interest around the Northeast. We feel that they deserve the boost in pay after the valiant effort that our Pro Late Model teams put forward in 2013 at Oxford.”

Oxford Plains Speedway General Manager Dick Therrien also announced earlier this week that longtime Late Model driver Quinny Welch will transition to full-time competition at Oxford in 2014. Welch has earned multiple championships at White Mountain Motorsports Park in the Late Model division and has been a top driver in numerous ACT Late Model Tour events he has entered.
