EASLEY, S.C. --
Joey Doiron battled back from a clutch issue that left him three laps down early in the 150-lap PASS Winter Meltdown at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Saturday to claim his second straight win at the historic track.

The Berwick, Maine driver was able to recover from his deficit by the benefit of early caution flags and the “lucky dog” free-pass to regain lead lap status before lap 50. From there, Doiron charged his way back toward the front of the field and moved into the top-ten on lap 57.

Doiron had moved into the top-five by the midway point and continued his march toward the front, taking the lead from Derek Ramstrom on lap 94. Ramstrom would regain the lead briefly following a lap 103 competition caution, but Dorion took the lead for keeps with 25 laps remaining.

“I almost parked it on the pace laps because the clutch was slipping and wouldn’t work,” Doiron said in victory lane via the Pro All Stars Series press release. “We took the green and I was wide open and couldn’t even keep up. We lost three laps and I figured we would go until lap 50 and if I could keep up, we would keep racing.

“Fortunately enough we got the laps back. Nobody can say I didn’t pass the most cars.”

The win for Doiron was the second PASS South win and the fourth PASS National win of his career.

Fellow Maine driver Mike Hopkins challenged Doiron on a late race restart after he moved into the second spot with 15 laps remaining. Doiron, however, proved to be too tough and the Hermon, Maine driver settled for second.

Preston Peltier of Harrisburg, N.C. finished third with early race leader Ramstrom of West Boylston, Mass. fourth. Tamworth, N.H. driver Jeremy Davis completed the top-five finishers.

Matt Craig, Maine’s Ben Rowe, Randy Gentry, Kodie Conner, and Jay Fogleman finished sixth through tenth, respectively.

The PASS South schedule continues on Saturday, March 5 at Dillon Motor Speedway. The six-race PASS National schedule will continue on Saturday, March 26 at Hickory Motor Speedway for the Easter Bunny 150.
